Wawasee All-Stars Advance At NSA B World Series
In what will remain a very busy week in the region, Wawasee All-Stars 12U softball team have made the most of its opportunities.
The local girls swept their two games of pool K at the NSA B World Series in Valparaiso, becoming a top seed heading into the winner’s bracket of the five-day, four-game minimum tournament.
Wawasee began its tournament with a 7-4, five-inning time limit win over the Lakeshore Pirates of Michigan. Amber Lemberg fired a five-hitter, giving up just two earned runs and striking out six. Kayla White and Ale Brito provided the thunder at the plate with three hits apiece and a combined three RBIs. Chloe Slusher and Lexi Dillon each added an RBI.
“We played very well, that was a very good start to the tournament,” said coach Larry Flannery during a phone conversation between games. “Amber threw a very good game for us. Lakeshore is a team we have seen before, so that helped us a little bit.”
Wawasee continued its hot streak with a 7-6 win over the KGSSL Aftershock from Illinois.
Lemberg was dealing in game two, striking out 11 while Olivia Clouse was the hitting star with two hits, a walk, three runs scored and one RBI.
Wawasee will continue its tournament today with an 11:30 a.m. local start against the Central Indiana CATZ 2000 team.
