Pedestrian Struck In Warsaw Sunday Evening
At 10:10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, emergency personnel were called to respond to an accident involving two vehicles and a pedestrian at South Buffalo Street near Marsh Supermarket.
According to an accident report filed by Warsaw Police Department, Penny J. Small, 51, Claypool, was traveling northbound on South Buffalo Street approaching Winona Avenue in front of Marsh when Matthew A. Schmidt, 19, Warsaw, suddenly stopped his vehicle in front of her due to a pedestrian walking into the roadway, causing Small to rear-end Schmidt’s vehicle. The collision then caused Schmidt’s vehicle to strike the male pedestrian identified as Ron Spaulding, 48, of Tippecanoe Drive, Warsaw.
According to witnesses at the scene, Spaulding crossed the roadway in an area where no crosswalk is located and continued to enter into the flow of northbound traffic until being struck by Schmidt. Spaulding complained of lower left leg pain and was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital by Multi-Township EMS.
A follow-up alcohol breath test by police revealed Spaulding to have a .17 percent BAC. Spaulding had swelling to his left ankle area and lower portion of his calf. He also had abrasions to his back. He did not have any complaints of pain and it is unknown the extent of his injuries as he was still receiving medical treatment.
Damages are estimated to cost up to $5,000 in repairs.
