Gary W. Helman, 56, of Cromwell, Ind., passed away on Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at his home.

He was born on July 3, 1958, in Gary, Ind., to Virgil Leroy and Attabelle “Atta” (Gipson) Hellman. He graduated in 1976 from Wawasee High School in Syracuse, Ind., and lived most of his life in the Cromwell area, except a short time in California and Columbia City, Ind.  

He was formerly employed at Shoemaker’s in Columbia City. He was raised in the Pentecostal Church. 

He is survived by three daughters: Emily Helman, Rachel Helman and Anna Helman, all of Columbia City; grandson: Christopher Logan; his mother: Atta Helman, Cromwell; a twin brother: Larry (Annette) Helman, Cromwell; and a sister: Teresa (Delmas) Davis, Goshen, Ind. 

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother: Michael Helman. 

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Carl Crise of the Whosoever Will Worship Center in Elkhart, Ind., and brother-in-law: Delmas Davis officiating. Private family burial will take place in the Syracuse Cemetery.
