Woman Arrested After Giving Birth On Meth
A Claypool woman was arrested yesterday by Kosciusko County officers after she allegedly delivered her baby with methamphetamine present in its system.
According to a press release provided by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, deputies and detectives responded to the Kosciusko Community Hospital yesterday morning at 10:30 a.m. regarding a recent birth. Upon arrival, officers were informed that Multi-Township EMS had previously responded to the address of 7094 South, County Road 100 East in Claypool in regards to a female in labor in the front yard of the residence.
It was explained that a preliminary test on the mother, identified as Sarah Ann Mills, 21, and her newly born child had shown the presence of methamphetamine in both of their systems. The infant was immediately transferred to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne where she remains in serious condition.
Sarah Mills was subsequently arrested and preliminarily charged with felony neglect of a dependent. She is currently being held in the Kosciusko County Jail under a prosecutorial hold.
The Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office advises that the defendant’s charge is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
