Friends Are Having a Silent Auction
The Friends of the Syracuse Library are meeting to plan two fund raising events. Any persons interested in helping the Friends are invited to a meeting on Thursday, Sept. 18, from 6 to 7 p.m. A silent auction is planned for October to sell the paintings and reproductions from the library’s picture-loan program. The spring fund raiser at a local restaurant will be discussed. Attending the Friends meeting is a nice way to for adults to meet other people that are enthusiastic about their library.
Young People’s Book Club
The characters created in the book “Divergent” are the topic of discussion for teens on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 5 p.m. Knowledge of the characters can also be learned from the movie. Teens that attend the round table discussion collect a pin to wear on a bag or jacket. Food and a sign-up sheet for the Sept. 26 Zombie After-hours Party will be provided.
Homeschoolers Meet
School is in full swing and so the homeschooling families have a meeting date at the Syracuse Library. Parents are invited to share with each other on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 2 p.m. The children can visit a learning station provided by the Gisela Vore, children’s librarian. Those attending can bring ideas and questions to share or stop in to meet other families in the area. Information about any programs will be answered by calling (574) 457-3022.
Crochet an Edge
String Theory is crocheting an edge on a pot holder. Everyone is invited to get a potholder that is provided and practice using a crochet stitch around the outside. Crochet can be used to finish material, crocheted, or knitted projects. The group meets Saturday, Sept. 20 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Donations of differing sizes of yarn are accepted along with crochet hooks and knitting needles.
