John Robert Russell
John Robert Russell, 69, of Silver Lake, Ind., passed away at 2 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2014, in his residence.
He was born Sept. 21, 1945, he was born in Detroit, Mich., to Albert and Mary Kathleen (Savage) Russell. He was united in marriage to Shirley Miller Yount on June 21, 1974, in Peru, Ind., who survives. John was a 1963 graduate of Catholic Central High School, Detroit, Mich., and briefly attended the Jesuit Seminary following high school. He graduated from Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio in 1967.
John had lived in the Silver Lake area for the last 38 years. He was semi-retired as a self-employed owner and builder. He built and managed apartments. He attended Warsaw Community Church, Warsaw.
John is survived by his wife of 40 years; two daughters: Susan (Terry) Schoettmer and Tina M. Prater, Warsaw; his son: Matthew John (Lynda) Vivian, Plymouth, Mich.; his sister: Marilyn (Rick) Ross, Simpsonville, Ky.; eight grandchildren: Ryan, Levi, Brandin, Bradey, Ariel, Brooklynn, Fischer and Lola; and his cousin: Mary Sue (Mark) Veltman, Fenton, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his father: Albert Russell; his mother: Mary Kathleen Russell Barko; and his brother: Richard Russell.
Visitation hours will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Pfeifer officiating. Burial will be privately held in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake, Ind.
