Local Band Wins Battle of Bands

The band, made up of lead vocalist Sabastian Coria, who also plays rhythm guitar; Veronica Coria on mandolin, ukulele and backup vocals; guitarist Samy Coria; keyboardist and vocalist Eileen Coria Gillis; drummer Sam Gillis; and lead guitarist Tyler Reinholt released their first CD, “No One Gets Any,” a little over a year ago. They’re hoping by winning the Battle of the Bands, their careers will soar.
The Battle of the Bands started on April 26 with seven preliminary rounds. When Fair Fjola conquered last night’s competition, they walked away with a 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan, a cash prize of $1,500, one full day of use of recording studio time, 250 CDs and advertising credit valued at $500.
Fair Fjola are an enigma as timeless as rock and roll. Quite literally an Argentine family band with a cast of friends, Fair Fjola are living proof that modern Americana is both alive and varied. A sound that at times evokes the most laid-back of groovy yesteryear anthems, it also manages to mix golden-era rockabilly with dark tales of treachery and indie-pop charm.
