Homecoming Week At WHS Busy With Activities
Fall is firmly entrenched, leaves are turning different colors and the air is cooler. It’s homecoming week at Wawasee High School and it will culminate with the home football game Friday evening against Goshen and the crowning of the queen and king.
Homecoming is set apart as not only a week to especially invite graduates to come back for a visit, but also is full of activities designed to get students involved and infused with school spirit.
An ongoing activity is the penny race held each day this week during lunchtime. Winners will be announced during the pep session Friday afternoon.
Monday was also Marvel Monday where students could wear a T-shirt of their favorite Marvel hero. Capture the flag was held in the annex gym Monday evening. Tuesday was class color day and seniors had blue, juniors orange, sophomores red and freshmen green. Students were encouraged to wear their class colors.
Wednesday was Wacky Wednesday and wearing clashing or conflicting colors was the norm. A talent show is scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight (Wednesday) at a cost of $1 per student and $2 for adults. On Thursday, seniors are to wear black and the other three classes white. Votes for homecoming royalty are to be cast during Warrior Time Thursday.
And Friday, wearing green and gold (no face paint) is encouraged, including hats. A pep session for students and staff only and not open to the public is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. and alcove decoration winners will be announced. Friday in the main spectator gym.
And before the game, students are asked to “bash a car” to help send a super mileage car to the national competition. Tailgating is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday prior to the football game.
