Wendy Fairchild, whose father was listed as missing in action during the Vietnam War, presented the first program in the library’s Military Series last week. The library concludes its series with a program on the Honor Flight Network on Nov. 20.

They have been called the greatest generation – the 16 million Americans who served our nation during World War II fighting for freedom and democracy. Today only a little over one million World War II veterans remain living including 20,954 in Indiana. According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, another 640 pass into history every day.

To honor our World War II veterans, the library will host a program at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, about the Honor Flight Network. Regional Director Bob Myers will present information and answer questions about the Honor Flight program that transports World War II veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the World War II Memorial.

Veterans who have gone on Honor Flights will also be on hand to share their experiences. This informative program is open to the public with free admission. Be sure to attend and learn about this organization that is dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifices of American veterans.

In other library programs, Writer’s Corner will meet at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17 to hone their writing skills and share essays they have written on a favorite garment they remember. Then at 5:30 p.m. R.E.A.D. Book Club meets to discuss “Cutting for Stone” by Abraham Verghese.

Revolving Recipe Round-Up will meet a week early this month at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18. Prepare a recipe you have found in a magazine and bring it to share and sample. The library provides the table service along with free coffee and bottled water.

The teens in grades 6-12 will celebrate National Write-A-Novel Month during Teen Time at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20. They will cut words and lines out of old books and use them to write their own stories – some silly, some serious, whatever their imaginations dream up.

There will be no Preschool Story Time on Wednesday, Nov. 19, since Mrs. Pam will be attending the Indiana Library Federation Conference in Indianapolis where Adult Services Director Beth Smith will be a featured speaker.

Looking for meaningful volunteer opportunities? The Friends of the Library is a volunteer organization that supports the work of the library and will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19.
