Warsaw Wins, Wawasee Fourth In Invite
The No. 18 Warsaw girls golf team won the Fremont Invitational Thursday and the Wawasee squad finished in fourth place.
Warsaw, led by Alexis Manwaring, posted a team total of 389 to best runner-up South Bend St. Joseph’s by seven strokes in the 13-team field at the Lake James Golf Club in Angola.
Manwaring shot a round of 93 to pace the Tigers. Morgan Sands shot 97, Nikki LaLonde 99, Elizabeth Meadows 100 and Ashley Murrell 116 for the champions, coached by Chris LaLonde.
Mikala Mawhorter led Wawasee, which shot 406, with a 90. Elizabeth Jackson shot 101, Courtney McDaniel 104, Kylee Rostochak 111 and Alex Goralczyk 117 for the Warriors.
Anna Wilcoxson of St. Joe was medalist with a round of 73.
Warsaw won the tourney with its 389, while St. Joe was second at 396. Elkhart Central placed third with a 403, followed by Wawasee (406), Fairfield (419), Northridge (420), New Haven (427), Angola (427), Manchester (44), Concord (462), West Noble (468), Fremont (474) and Elkhart Memorial (545).
Warsaw competes Saturday in the Western Invitational at the Chippendale Golf Course in Kokomo. Wawasee was scheduled to play LaVille today at Swan Lake in Plymouth.
