IWU Handles Short-handed Pilots
MISHAWAKA – Tuesday night wasn’t a great time for Bethel to be short-handed. Having No. 1-ranked Indiana Wesleyan in the Wiekamp Center, the Pilots only had seven players available. The tired legs took its toll as the Wildcats were able to come away with a 78-73 men’s basketball win.
The Pilots had Matt Schauss lead all scorers with 25 points and added 10 rebounds while Clay Yeo accounted for 22 points and nine boards. Travis Smith added 13 points, but the remainder of the roster only came up with 13 points as the Wildcats outscored the Pilots 42-27 in the second half after Bethel built a 46-36 lead going into the lockerroom.
Bethel entered the night playing six men short for various reasons.
The Wildcats had four players in double figures, led by Jonny Marlin’s 21 points and 11 assists. Bob Peters had 14 points, DJ Bettinger 13 points and Lane Mahurin 10 points. Whitko alum Zac Vanderwater chipped in six points in 25 minutes of work.
Indiana Wesleyan moves to 8-0 on the season while Bethel loses its first game to drop to 9-1 overall.
