The Bucket Stays In Bloomington
BLOOMINGTON – It came down to the final second, just like any rivalry should.
In the 90th edition of The Old Oaken Bucket Game, Indiana defeated Purdue, 23-16. The Hoosiers, led by two big runs from senior D’Angelo Roberts, drove down the field for a Zander Diamont rushing score with 27 seconds remaining.
Junior Tevin Coleman rushed for 130 yards on 29 carries (4.5 average). This brings his season total to 2,036, which makes him the 18th player in FBS history to reach the 2,000 yard mark.
After a 41-yard field goal by redshirt freshman Griffin Oakes and a 41-yard rushing touchdown for senior Shane Wynn, Indiana came back from a 13-3 deficit to tie the game at 13-13. With six receptions in the game, Wynn brings his career total to 189, which is tied for second on the all-time Indiana list (Damarlo Belcher, 2008-11).
For the first time since 2010 (Towson), Indiana had three interceptions. The Hoosiers also recorded a fumble recovery for a total of four takeaways.
Indiana has now won two consecutive Bucket Games and three out of the last five.
Purdue ends the season with a 3-9 record while Indiana finishes 4-8. Both teams finished 1-7 in Big Ten play.
