Triton Rides Momentum To Title
BOURBON – It’s not easy winning two games in one day. And certainly not against schools three and four times your size. But Triton was able to overcome the odds to claim a championship in the Triton Tournament after a 36-33 win over Pendleton Heights.
Triton overcame a 25-22 deficit heading into the fourth quarter to grab the victory over Pendleton Heights. Shooting was not at a premium for either club, with Triton hitting just 31 percent (12-39) of its shots while Heights were worse at 27 percent (13-49).
After a quiet opening win against Wawasee, Krystal Sellers led Triton with 10 points in the championship. Becca Kennedy added nine point and four rebounds and Lauren Hostrawser continued her solid post play with seven points, nine rebounds and two steals. Heights held Kylie Mason to just 1-of-11 shooting and four points.
Triton did make hay behind the arc, hitting five threes to just one for the visitors.
The win moves Triton to 5-2 on the season, while Pendleton Heights splits on the day to sit at 3-3.
Elsewhere in the tournament, Wawasee (3-4) lost its second game of the day in the consolation game against Leo 31-25. Kylee Rostochak had a big game, scoring 11 points to go with eight rebounds, six steals and four assists. Elizabeth Jackson added seven points.
Pendleton Heights defeated Leo, 56-45, in the second game of the day to advance to the championship.
Triton will host Knox Saturday in its next contest while Wawasee will entertain West Noble Tuesday night in Syracuse.
