A White Christmas? Special Weather Statement From NWS
The National Weather Service Northern Indiana issued a special weather statement and hazardous weather outlook for this afternoon and evening.
A rain and snow mix late this afternoon will likely become all snow by early evening. There is still uncertainty regarding the timing of the changeover, which will impact snow amounts.
The snow may become moderate to heavy for a brief period, which could lay down a quick one-half inch to 2 inches of snow.
Slushy accumulations on area roads and reduced visibilities as winds increase to between 20 miles per hour and 30 miles per hour may create difficult driving conditions by evening. Those with travel plans later today, into tonight, are encouraged to monitor latest forecasts for updates.
The hazardous weather outlook is for portions of Northern Indiana and Southwest lower Michigan. Kosciusko County, Elkhart County, Marshall County, Wabash County and Fulton County is included in this outlook.
Current indications suggest that snowfall accumulations will range from a dusting to around 3 inches, the best chance of snow accumulations are at the higher end of the range across northwest Indiana into southwest lower Michigan.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for portions of this area which currently includes areas west of Elkhart and Marshall counties.
