Mentone Town Council Waives Monthly Water Fund Transfer
Monday evening’s Mentone Town Council meeting saw the council waive what had previously been a monthly transfer of $3,000 from the water department to a depreciation fund. As council member Shelly Kreuger explained that there is currently no pressing matter that would lead them to discontinue to add to the depreciation fund, “There is a good amount in the depreciation fund currently and there are no big projects on the horizon, so the funds can do some good where they are currently.”
Josh Shepard of the street department received unanimous approval from the council to rollover $25,000 in unused funds from 2014 to use on new pavement for Mentone streets in 2015. The funds were originally intended for this purpose, but did not get used last year.
Steve Harris spoke to the board on behalf of the Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation about selling pieces of several acre lot, owned by TVSC, to nearby residents who have maintained the land of it as if it were their own despite not legally owning it. TVSC is not using the land, thus deciding it in everyone’s best interest to sell three separate lots to the three residence owners whose properties adjoin them. The board opted to table the signing of the ordinance until next month’s meeting in order to give Shepard and his crew time to go out and inspect the area for underground utility wires. Following a successful inspection, everything will be in order for TVSC to vacate the discussed area and make the sales. As TVSC Superintendent Brett Boggs stated, “We are just trying to be good neighbors.”
The board unanimously approved Shepard’s request that two members of his crew be able to attend the American Water Works Association conference Feb. 10-12 in Indianapolis.
Next month’s meeting is scheduled for Feb. 2.
