Fatal Pile Up On I-94 In Michigan
Emergency crews have completely shut down all lanes of traffic on Interstate 94 in Kalamazoo county, Michigan, after a fatal pile up involving more than 100 vehicles today.
Multiple semis and passenger vehicles were involved. According to Michigan State Police, more than 70 vehicles in the westbound lanes and more than 20 vehicles in the eastbound lanes were involved.
A three mile evacuation radius has also been ordered around the scene of the crash, due to burning hazardous materials.
At least one person has been confirmed dead so far. There are no estimates yet on injuries.
“You couldn’t see a single thing at the time of all the accidents,” said Micah Stanislowski, who was involved in the crash.
Authorities say that the road will be closed until at least early Saturday morning. Anyone planning to travel in the area is asked to avoid I-94 between mile markers 85 (Galesburg exit) and 92 (M-37/Mercury Drive). Road conditions across Michigan and northern Indiana have been treacherous today due to the weather.
