Kosciusko Commissioners Take Care Of Business
The Kosciusko County Commissioners had a number of items requiring approval on the agenda for the Jan. 27 meeting.
First, Sue Ann Mitchell came before the commissioners representing the county’s Board of Finance. Commissioner Ron Truex, who was uncharacteristically absent from the meeting, was reappointed to the board. Then Mitchell summarized the board’s investment for approval.
She reported that all the banks with whom the county invests take in property tax free of charge, and the accounts do accrue interest. Mitchell also reported that three municipal bonds were purchased. The commissioners approved the board’s plans.
The commissioners also approved the purchase of a booth for $150 at the upcoming BAKFC Home and Outdoor Show. “I think this is a great outreach to the community,” said Commissioner Brad Jackson.
Last year the county demonstrated the GIS system at the show. “Having the GIS system set up there last year was really interesting,” said Bob Conley, commissioner president.
Kevin Planck of Kosciusko Area Bus Service appeared before the board to issue the fourth quarter report. He also submitted a contract with Co-Op to provide fuel for the bus service for the next six months.
Planck reported that with the current low gas prices he can lock into a price of $1.98 a gallon. The commissioners did not hesitate to approve the contract.
Kosciusko County Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine submitted the Kosciusko County Work Release 2014 report. According to the report, 128 inmates were admitted to the work release program, and $382,254 was collected for the year. Also, six inmates from the Indiana Department of Corrections were housed through the Community Transition Program. A total of $7,615 was collected from these inmates.
“It’s a tremendous program, and when run correctly it brings a lot of money back to the county,” said Conley.
Additionally, the commissioners approved the use of grant money for a new truck for Kosciusko County Emergency Management. The commissioners finalized the paperwork on the Turkey Creek Planning Project. Wes Stouder was reappointed to the Economic Development commission, and the commission approved that the county look into new digital imaging systems for various county departments.
The next meeting of the Kosciusko County Commissioners is set for 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10.
