Syracuse Public Library news and events this week:
One Book, One Hour
The adult book club, One Book, One Hour, is meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11 to review “The 100-Year-Old-Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared.” The Norwegian story is a frolicking adventure and reminiscent of political highlights in Europe. The club meets upstairs in the adult department.
Children’s Book Club
From 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, the children’s book club meets. Love is in the air this valentine’s day, where kids will start decorating their heart for the February heart decorating contest. Cookies and punch will be served. Children’s book club lets each child take home a small book which they read aloud at the next meeting.
The heart decorating contest will be judged at the end of February with prizes for three winners. Children may pick up a heart to decorate either at home or in the library.
Food From Fiction
The recipe determined the book for the newest adult book club. “The Apple Orchard” by Susan Wiggs is the book the group is sharing food and thoughts on when they meet at the end of February. Two half-sisters inherit half-shares in a hundred acre apple orchard in Sonoma County. They must bond with each other to manage the orchard, even though they have never met and have different temperaments. Not known as a “recipe-writer”, Wiggs is a popular, award-winning author of 54 books. Seven of these books have many easy to make recipes. Call the library for help in reserving a copy. Knitting and Crocheting
The library is continuing to offer two knitting or crocheting groups for beginners. February is the last month for weekly Thursday meetings in the children’s department. That meeting is at 4 p.m. String theory meets from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14. Adults and young people are invited to spend an hour and a half learning either knitting or crocheting.
