Indiana Army National Guard Soldiers Deployed to Cuba
Approximately 30 soldiers from the 38th Military Police Company, Indiana Army National Guard, deployed Saturday, Feb. 7, to Guantanamo Bay to assist with Operation Enduring Freedom.
A deployment ceremony was held at Twin Lakes High School in Monticello and family and friends were given the opportunity to bid farewell to the guardsmen before they left. They will travel first to Fort Bliss, TX, to receive additional training before continuing on to Cuba.
The mission for the troops is to provide general security support at the Guantanamo detention facility.
“I charge all of you to execute your duties and responsibilities to the best of your ability the first time, every time,” stated Lt. Col. Walter Finney, 38th Division Headquarters Battalion Commander during the ceremony.
