Uber To Add ‘Panic Button’ For Riders
Ride sharing service Uber will add a new security measure for users in Chicago in the next few months.
A panic button will now be available, allowing riders to alert police directly from Uber’s mobile app if they feel they are in a threatening situation. The initiative comes after two Chicago Uber drivers were charged with sexual assault.
The panic button has already been put in place for riders in India, following several rape allegations against drivers. The feature will likely be made available in other cities in the US as well.
Other safety measures being implemented include a secret shopper program, which will use off-duty police officers to report on the ride experience.
