Adult Book Clubs
The recipe determined the book for the newest adult book club. “The Apple Orchard” by Susan Wiggs is the book the group is sharing food and thoughts on when they meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26.
Two half-sisters inherit half-shares in a 100-acre apple orchard in Sonoma County. They must bond with each other to manage the orchard, even though they have never met and have different temperaments.
Not known as a “recipe-writer,” Wiggs is a popular, award-winning author of 54 books. Seven of these books have many easy to make recipes. Call the library for help in reserving a copy. (574) 457-3022.
The evening book club, One Book, One Hour, is reading a work of fiction based on the covert government program to assimilate the Cheyenne Indians by providing white women to become wives in the tribe. The fictional character May Dodd journeys in the program to escape the insane asylum where her family placed her. The diaries of the women in the story create a glimpse of the American West in 1875.
“One Thousand White Women” is the product of the imagination of Jim Fergus. Fergus is an interesting character in his own way; having lived and traveled extensively he is fluent in French and is particularly attracted to Colorado. After 10 years teaching tennis he moved to the town of Rand, Colorado where he has been writing professionally. Only out west would a place be called a town with a population of 13. One Book, One Hour meets the second Wednesday in March so call the Syracuse Public Library for assistance in acquiring a copy of the book.
Story Time
Story time is adventuring out from the library this March and going out to find out about people in the community. Eight weeks of story time will only meet on Mondays. Children and adults will leave from the library to explore jobs and activities at businesses in our area.
