Volleyball Team Tops Manchester
The Whitko volleyball team posted a 3-0 win over Manchester Thursday night.
Whitney Hobbs had six kills and Maddie Gawthrop five as the Wildcats prevailed 25-12, 25-14, 25-19.
Meghan Peters produced 14 assists to go with three aces for the winners. Elaine Warner had two aces and seven digs. Jenny Brown led Whitko with 17 digs and Aressa Tackwell had seven. Taylor Zwick and Gawthrop each had two blocks as Whitko improved to 2-1.
“The girls did a great job keeping their composure through the whole match to pull out a great win against a conference opponent (although it won’t count for the conference until we play again later in the season),” said Whitko coach Brandy Smith.
The Whitko JV team beat Manchester 25-20, 25-21. Emily Hughes had three kills and Tressa Keim five digs for Whitko (2-1).
Churubusco beat the Wildcats 25-15, 25-16, 25-18 Tuesday night. Zwick had five kills and three blocks, while Peters had seven assists, 16 digs and an ace. Gawthrop had three blocks and an ace.
Churubusco also won the JV match by posting a 25-19, 25-11 final.
Lady Wildcats Outdone At Rochester
Cagney Craig had a goal for Whitko (0-2-1), but the Rochester girls soccer team were just too much in a 3-1 victory. Craig’s goal came in the second half, but Rochester (2-0) had already built a 3-0 before the halftime whistle.
Plymouth Runs Over Wildcats
A seven-goal first half blitz by Plymouth set the tone in a 10-0 boys soccer win over Whitko in South Whitley. Tim Fonseca had a hat trick, Clay Marshall added two goals and an assist and Alex Orellana and Joe Smith each added a goal and assist for Plymouth (1-1-1). Whitko (0-3) had just a pair of shots on target in the match.
