Paul Smith
Paul Smith, 90, of Leesburg, Ind., passed away at 2:20 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Syracuse, Ind.
He was born on Jan. 29, 1922, in Hanfield, Ind., to Arthur and Margaret (McKenzie) Smith.
He graduated in 1940 from Van Buren High School in Van Buren, Ind., and was married on July 11, 1975, in Pierceton, Ind., to Betty J. (McVey) Nealis who survives. He moved to the Leesburg area permanently in 1982 from Marion, Ind., after he had summered there for many years. He was formerly employed at Allied Paper in Marion for several years, managed Handy Andy Food Stores in Marion for many years and was a custodian for Leesburg Elementary School for two years.
He was member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 253 in North Webster and he enjoyed watching and feeding the birds.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife: Betty Smith, Leesburg; three daughters: Marilyn Bowling, Marion; Donna (Kevin) Kern, Milford; Paula (Kim) Martin, Wabash; a son: Don Smith, Holiday, Fla.; six grandchildren; give great-grandchildren; and a sister: Helen Keller, Fort Wayne.
He is preceded by his parents, sister: Edith Scott; and two brothers: Robert and Ralph Smith,
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 27, at Owen Family Funeral Home, North Webster. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 28, at the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Boyer of the North Webster Church of God officiating. Burial services will follow at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the Gardens of Memory Chapel, in Marion, Ind.
Memorial bequest may be given to Miller’s Merry Manor Activities Dept., 500 E. Pickwick Dr., Syracuse, IN 46567. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
