Lowell R. Krou
Lowell R. Krou, 87, of Winona Lake, Ind., passed away at 2:20 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, at Parkview Hospital North, Fort Wayne, Ind.
He was born Feb. 21, 1925, in Nappanee, Ind., to Elmer and Hattie (Heinke) Krou. He was inducted into the United States Army on May 8, 1943, in Toledo, Ohio, and was a member of 271st INF REG 69th INF DIV during World War II. Sgt. Lowell R. Krou was honorably discharged at Camp Atterbury on April 14, 1946.
On Feb. 17, 1944, Lowell married Inabelle L. Truex in Wabash, Ind. He worked for Creighton Brothers for 40 years retiring in 1990 as their maintenance supervisor. He loved fishing, gardening and growing roses (especially for his wife, Inabelle).
Mr. Krou is survived by three daughters: Carol (James) Patrick, LaGrange, Ind.; Rebecca (Larry) Bender, Shipshewana, Ind.; and Sherry VanKirk, Warsaw; eight grandchildren: Amy (Dr. Dan) Fulkerson, Zionsville, Ind.; Eric (Tia) VanKirk, Indianapolis; Lori (John) Dillow, Noblesville, Ind.; Kristy (Doug) Wolferman, Syracuse, Ind.; Shari Russell, LaGrange; Jamie (Kevin) Watkins, LaGrange; Lowell (Teresa) Bender, LaGrange; Lisa (Rustin) Tribble, Bristol, Ind.; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Inabelle Krou; a daughter: Kathy Krou; six sisters: Mabel Krou, Wilma Sparks, Mildred Bohde, Phyllis Krou, Margaret Ausherman, Ella Mae Krou; and two brothers: Ward Krou and Elmer Krou.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, in the funeral home with Pastor Bryan Koorey, Warsaw Community Church, Warsaw. Burial will be in Stony Point Cemetery, Atwood, Ind. Military honors will be conducted by Warsaw’s American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #1126.
