May Is Mental Health Month
By OTIS R. BOWEN CENTER STAFF
May is Mental Health Month is observed nationwide by organizations dedicated to mental health-related issues. According to Mental Health America, the observance began in 1949. This year’s theme is “B4Stage4.” The theme is geared toward convincing people to address their mental health issues early, rather than at stage four when symptoms are more severe, and recovery becomes a longer process.
According to the Mental Health America website, “For more than 65 years, Mental Health America and our affiliates across the country have led the observance of May is Mental Health Month by reaching millions of people through the media, local events and screenings. We welcome other organizations to join us in spreading the word that mental health is something everyone should care about by using the May is Mental Health Month toolkit materials and conducting awareness activities.”
At The Bowen Center, literature on mental health issues is available at any of The Center’s 11 clinical locations in 10 Northern Indiana counties: Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Marshall, Noble, Steuben, Wabash and Whitley, as well as on The Center’s website at www.bowencenter.org.
On the website, visitors can take a free depression check or browse the numerous resources and services provided by The Center.
