Warsaw Sports Wrap – April 30
The Warsaw boys track team rose to the challenge Thursday night.
The host Tigers fought off a strong challenge from visiting Northridge to keep its impressive conference winning streak alive.
Undefeated Warsaw won the final event of the night, the 4 X 400 relay race, to get past the Raiders by a 71-61 margin in Northern Lakes Conference action.
The foursome of Ross Armey, Nick Adams, Daniel Messenger and Landan Perry hit the finish line first in a time of 3:34.81 in the 4 X 400 to ice the win.
Warsaw, now 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the NLC, has won 32 straight NLC meets dating back to 2011.
Sprinter Brandon Reinholt notched a pair of wins Thursday to pace the Tigers on the track. Reinholt hit the line first in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes in top times of 11.46 and 23.52 respectively.
Riley Rhoades, who has been sidelined due to an injury, returned to win the 400 in a time of 51.08 for Warsaw. Also placing first were Armey in the 300 hurdles (42.99), Messenger in the 800 (2:05.28) and Owen Glogovsky in the 3,200 (9:58.89).
The Tigers also won the 4 X 100 relay event as the team of Reinholt, Armey, Nick Light and Will McGarvey claimed first in a time of 45.37.
Warsaw also picked up key second-place finishes in the win from Ben Plummer (shot put), Jaceb Burish (shot put), Rashaan Jackson (long jump), Caleb Klusman (300 hurdles), Perry (400), Armey (100), Glogovsky (1,600) and Zach Stavedahl (110 hurdles).
Placing third for Warsaw were Andrew Owens (110 hurdles), McGarvey (200), Brock Riley (high jump), Rane Kilburn (long jump), Andrew Scheidt (discus) and Dylan Childers (shot put).
Warsaw will host its own Max Truex Invitational Friday night starting at 6 p.m. The Tigers close out NLC regular-season competition next Wednesday versus NorthWood and Plymouth at NorthWood. The NLC Meet is set for May 12 at Warsaw.
Baseball Team Crushes Central
The Warsaw baseball team was in the swing of things in a big way Thursday night.
The host Tigers scored 10 runs in the first inning en route to routing Elkhart Central 13-2 in five innings in non-conference play.
Warsaw bounced back in a big way after a tough 19-5 conference loss on Wednesday evening at Northridge.
Sterling Hay continued his prowess at the plate for the Tigers with two hits, including a home run, and four RBI.
Brad Christenberry had a big night with three hits and three RBI for Warsaw.
Ethyn Bradley smacked a triple and Ryan Marshall and Zach Witt each had two hits. Witt went the five inning on the hill for the pitching win to improve his season mark to 2-0.
Warsaw, which is now 4-6 overall and sits at 2-3 in the NLC, will host league foe Concord Friday and play a doubleheader at Valparaiso on Saturday.
The Warsaw junior varsity team edged past Central 6-5. Jordan Steffensmeier homered as the JV Tigers improved to 9-1.
Winning pitcher Zach Morris had a hit for the winners. Luke Baker, Alex Miller and Collin Marshall each had a hit for Warsaw too.
