GOSHEN – It was quite a day for Kaitlyn’s. Or Katlyn’s.

Both Kaitlyn Reed of Whitko and Katlyn Kennedy of Wawasee earned titles at the Goshen Relays girls track extravaganza Saturday at Foreman Field. Reed claimed two titles in high jump and long jump while Kennedy won the shot put in what was a big field day for the local clubs.

Reed was in a class by herself in the long jump, sailing 18-00.50 to win handily while teammate Elaine Warner was less than an inch away from second place, settling for third at 16-00.75. Reed came back to win the high jump with a mark of 5-2, taking the title on jumps as Eastside’s 5-2 jump came after Reed’s and neither could set the bar any higher.

Reed also helped Whitko’s 4×100 relay to a third-place time of 52.00. Reed teamed with Abby Overmyer, Megan Thomas and Warner.

Katlyn Kennedy of Wawasee won the shot put at the Goshen Relays.

Kennedy has been the rock for Wawasee in shot put this season, and continued her push to the state tournament with a winning toss of 35-7.5 for the title. Teammate Madison Beaman was seventh at 30-4.5.

Hannah Winters gave Wawasee another throwing sensation, taking second in discus at 105-01. Only Kankakee Valley’s Jazmine Mehay’s 119-02 went further.

Wawasee top track showing was a second-place time of 2:06.22 in the sprint medley. Making up Wawasee’s team was Adriene Gill, Hannah Marie Lamle, Haleigh Smarr and Molly Swartz. Winning the event was South Bend Washington, setting a Relays record at 2:03.92.

Wawasee finished Class A -comprised of the larger schools – in sixth place out of eight teams with 44 points. Whitko finished Class B in fifth place out of seven teams with 42. points. South Bend Adams (80) and Fairfield (84) were the respective class winners at the Goshen Relays.
