Train Exhibit At Old Jail Museum
By SALLY HOGAN
Director, Old Jail Museum
Ever wonder if there has been any train derailments in our county? Or if there has been any smash-ups as trains collide? Well, wonder no more, because the answer is yes, Kosciusko County has had its share of train mishaps.
The featured exhibit at the Old Jail Museum, 121 N. Indiana St., Warsaw, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, May through August, will be train wrecks and the Interurban.
The Interurban train system first connected Warsaw and Winona Lake and later connected Warsaw with Goshen and Peru. With the popularity of the car, the interurban system disappeared. In 1952 interurban train service in Warsaw ended. This exhibit also features two running model locomotives; a Lionel Train set with Plastic Town accessories donated to the museum by Doris Christner, Wayne Chistner, Raymond Christner, and Sheri Christner Krinchbaum, and an American Flyer Train set loaned to the museum by Dan Coplen.
Several of the area train derailments converted from the Boice Film Collection to DVDs and can be viewed as well. Admission to exhibit is by donation.
