Indianapolis Zoo Welcomes Two Koalas For The Summer
The Indianapolis Zoo has welcomed two new koala residents this week. Milo and Thackory arrived via a Southwest Airlines flight from Queensland, Australia, Monday evening.
Milo is four years old. He is the son of Coombah, who was part of the koaka exhibit at Indianapolis Zoo in 2008. Milo means “eye” in Aboriginal. Zoo officials say he got that name because his eye was the first thing keepers saw peeking out from his mom’s pouch before he fully emerged.
Thackory is also four years old. His name means “heavy,” chosen because of his larger size. Zookeepers say he loves to greet them while waiting for his breakfast in the morning.
The koala pair have been getting acquainted with their new home. They will be at Indianapolis Zoo for the summer. The koala exhibit opens May 23. For more information, visit www.indianapoliszoo.com.
