UPDATE: Car Vs. Bicycle On Detroit Street
UPDATE: Thomas E. Meade, 59, West Market Street, Warsaw, was transported to Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, suffering chest injuries after wrecking his bicycle and being thrown into the travel portion of Detroit Street. Meade was then hit and pinned under a vehicle. Meade suffered internal chest injuries.
The accident occurred at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 14 at North Detroit Street and East Arthur Street. Warsaw.
Tracy E. Parker, 51, East CR 600S, Warsaw, was northbound on Detroit Street in the right hand lane of travel when Meade, who had been riding a bicycle, flew out into her lane of travel from Arthur Street. She attempted to swerve to miss Meade but was unable to avoid the collision.
Witnesses and a passenger in Parker’s vehicle told police Meade was westbound on Arthur Street and it appeared as if he was trying to turn south onto the sidewalk when he began to wreck his bicycle. He was then thrown into the right hand lane of northbound Detroit Street.
The right front passenger tire struck Meade, stopping on top of his chest.
INITIAL REPORT: At approximately 3 p.m. Thursday, May 14, emergency personnel were called to Detroit Street near the area of Arthur Street in Warsaw for an automobile accident.
Initial reports state that the accident involved a collision between an vehicle and a bicycle. One person is reportedly complaining of pain.
The bicyclist was transported to an area hospital for injuries.
