William ‘Bill’ L. Wieringa
William “Bill” L. Wieringa, 87, Culver, passed away on May 19, 2015, at his home in Culver.
Bill was born Feb. 11, 1928, in Sheldon, Ill. He was one of four children born to William E and
Iva (Garrett) Wieringa. Having met the love of his life, Bill married Nita J. Wedgebury on March 11,
1950, in Sheldon. There they began raising their five children.
Bill farmed and drove a truck to support his family. In 1954 Bill and Nita moved to Culver to finish
raising their family. Bill worked for Farm Bureau Co-Op. He later retired from Buckeye Ag Center in
Monterey.
Bill liked to fish and hunt. He was also a passionate fan of the Cubs and Bears. He also was a
member of the Culver VFW Men’s Auxiliary. He loved his family and will be greatly missed.
Bill is survived by his daughters: Mary (Michael) Guyse, Syracuse, and Connie (Ron) James, Ora;
sons: Larry (Cindy) Wieringa and Chuck (Susie) Wieringa, Knox; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-
grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Nita; son: William; parents; a brother; two sisters; grandson: Travis Wieringa, and great-great-granddaughter: Elexus Katschke.
A time to gather with the family will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 23 at
the Odom Funeral Home in Culver. Rev. Don Franklin will officiate funeral services at 1 p.m. Burial
will follow at the Culver Masonic Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Finney-Shilling VFW Post 6919 in Culver.
