Third Man Arrested in Dollar General Theft
Tanner Leonard, 23, 322 South Washington St., Warsaw, was arrested Friday evening after a warrant was issued on Jan. 20 for his involvement in the Jan. 1 break-in at Dollar General, and theft of liquor from CVS on the same day.
Leonard has been charged with aiding, inducing or causing burglary, a level 5 felony; theft, a class a misdemeanor; and a sentence enhancement for theft, a level 6 felony. He was held on a $10,000 surety bond.
His charges have been enhanced due to a Jan. 2, 2014, conviction of theft.
The other two individuals involved, Tyler Boocher and Cory Conley, were arrested Jan. 2 and Jan. 15 respectively.
The affidavit of probable cause states Warsaw Police Officer Ryan Petty responded to a burglary at Dollar General on Jan 1. There the front door glass had been broken out and the cigarette display case broken. A piece of wood and pieces of a brick were found laying inside the store.
The manager stated an unknown amount of cigarettes, valued at less than $750, were taken. A surveillance video showed the burglary occurred at 5:42 a.m. that day and the involvement of two males. The video showed a male, later identified as Conley, throwing a block through the glass door and entering the store. The second individual to enter the store was later identified as Boocher with a piece of wood. Conley was viewed attempting to breaking the glass on the cigarette case, but Boocher used the block to break the glass on the counter. Both grabbed cigarettes, shoving them into pockets and leaving the store. Conley returned to grab more cigarettes before leaving a second time.
Warsaw Police Officer Miles Reichard responded to a theft at CVS Pharmacy that same day. A shift supervisor reported three males came into the store grabbed bottles of alcohol and walked out without paying. The surveillance video showed Conley and Leonard getting shopping baskets, placing the items in the baskets. The items valued at $106.02.
Police had received information naming individual’s involved in the CVS theft and burglary at Dollar General. Checking social media sites, police were able to identify Boocher as one of the individuals entering Dollar General and taking the liquor from CVS. Leonard was also identified through a photograph.
As the investigation continued at various locations, police were able to obtain a search warrant for one location where Boocher and Leonard were among those present. Items taken from both businesses were located.
Continuing the investigation police were able to determine Conley, Leonard and Boocher stole liquor from CVS and that Conley and Boocher broke into Dollar General, after Leonard had told them to burglarize the store as Leonard wanted some of the items.
Criminal History
Boocher was convicted on Aug. 29, 2013, of receiving stolen property and conviction of conversion on Jan. 23, 2014, and theft on April 3, 2014. There was also a pending criminal csase of forgery, theft and deception.
Conley was convicted of theft on March 18, 2013.
Leonard has been convicted of conversion on Sept. 8, 2010; theft, Feb. 26, 2013; theft and resisting law enforcement on Jan. 2, 2014.
