Read Alike Books At Warsaw Public Library
By LAURIE VOSS
Circulation Supervisor, Warsaw Community Public Library
Recently I had someone approach the circulation desk and ask if I knew of another author that wrote like Janet Evanovich. Not only was I able to give them a couple of names and refer them to our reference department, but I was able to direct them to some websites that do this very thing.
The very first referral is to the Warsaw library’s own “Novelist” website. Not only will you find read-alikes, but this site will link you to our website where you can place holds or put them in your own reading list. Find this at www.warsawlibrary.org. Click on reference, online resources, and home access under Novelist.
Another is Goodreads at www.goodreads.com. This site is much more that finding “like” authors. After you read a book you can rate it for others and leave a comment. You can put books on a list that you would like to read, and you can converse with others on the site. They even have book giveaways that you can enter. This is probably one of my favorite sites.
BookBrowse is next at www.bookbrowse.com/read-alike. This site allows you to search read-alikes not only by author, but you can place the title of your favorite book into a search box, and in return get a list of read-alike books. They also have a Reader’s Recommend section, as well as a page for soon to be released books.
Another fairly plain, but still useful site is LibraryThing at www.librarything.com. They do have a search box for typing in the author, but they also have a huge list of 5,932 authors that you can click on to find read-alikes. It’s not fancy, but it’s still very useful.
If you are here at the Warsaw Community Public Library and stumped on what to read next, stop in at our reference desk, or the children’s department. Each will be able to assist you in their area of expertise. Use our free internet, and access these websites here and take all afternoon to browse.
Whatever genre you desire to read, we are here to assist you to get the utmost enjoyment from your library and your reading adventures.
