People who leave their vehicles unlocked are continuing to be targeted by thieves.

Sgt. Chad Hill, public information officer for the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, says approximately 5 more reports of thefts were reported this morning. This time, the thieves targeted vehicles on the east side of Warsaw.

Specifically, victims’ reports came from locations in the 2000 block of Old Rd. 30 East, CR 100 North and CR 300 East. “Again, these were vehicles that were left unlocked,” says Hill.

The thefts occurred in the overnight hours and were discovered this morning. Deputies have been called to take reports, but those reports are not yet available this morning.

Yesterday, a resident of Lake Tippecanoe’s Lakeside Addition near North Webster called StaceyPageOnline.com to say he and several of his neighbors had also been targeted.

James Cavender of T7A Lane says at least four of his neighbors all reported having their vehicles entered overnight last night. Among the missing items are CDs, cash, change and cologne and perfume. “It sounds like kids to me,” Cavender explains, noting other things, like tools, were left untouched in his vehicle.

Hill says today that whoever is responsible for the crimes is not a career criminal and is looking for the easy hit. “All we can do is keep pleading with people to lock their vehicles,” he adds.

Thefts from vehicles have been occurring much of this summer. on July 26, the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department said they were investigating approximately 20 thefts that had occurred over a two-week period. Hill also tells that there is no apparent pattern to where the thieves are going to target vehicles next.

Money, electronics and CDs have been the most reported stolen items. Again, Hill says none of the vehicles were broken into, they were entered because they were left unlocked. “It’s still a crime, but it could be avoided if people would just lock their vehicles,” he says.
