Indiana Mr. Basketball Caleb Swanigan of Fort Wayne has made the first cut for the USA Basketball U19 men’s team.

Swanigan, who led Homestead High School to a Class 4-A state championship back in March, was one of 16 players to make the first cut today at the team’s tryout camp in Colorado Springs, Colorado. A total of five players were cut today.

The final 12 players for the team will be announced June 21. The team is then scheduled to compete in the FIBA U19 World Championships from June 27-July 5 in Greece.

Swanigan, a Purdue recruit and one of the nation’s top rated high school players this past season, chose to skip the Indiana-Kentucky All-Star games to attend the USA Basketball tryout. The Indiana All-Stars beat Kentucky twice this past weekend in the annual event.

Swanigan was a member of the USA U17 team that won a gold medal last August.
