With the potential for severe weather approaching, travel plans may be affected for those planning to drive or fly today.

O’Hare International Airport in Chicago has canceled more than 150 flights today as a “proactive” precaution. These cancellations have affected local airports as well, primarily flights traveling into Chicago.

According to South Bend Regional Airport, two Allegiant flights traveling to Las Vegas were cancelled today with one flight delayed. Fort Wayne International Airport also noted a few cancellations, primarily in flights traveling to Chicago with American and United airlines.

Those traveling are advised to check with their respective airlines for cancellation notices. Fort Wayne International Airport also has a flight tracker on its website available for those flying.

According to the National Weather Service, there is an enhanced risk of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and tonight. The greatest risk is for damaging winds, possibly extreme. Large hail is a secondary risk and the NWS states, “tornadoes cannot be ruled out.”

In addition, heavy rainfall is also possible this afternoon and tonight. Due to recent heavy rainfall, flooding and flash flooding will be possible this afternoon and tonight.
