Devon Jay Slabaugh
Devon Jay Slabaugh, age 53, New Paris, died at 9:32 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2015, at South Bend Memorial Hospital from injuries received in a Buggy/Truck accident on US 6 east of Nappanee on June 11. He was born Nov. 13, 1961, to Elmer A. and Rosa (Borkholder) Slabaugh. Devon was a lifetime resident of this area. He married Kathryn June Schmucker, April 14, 1983, in Nappanee.
She survives with six children: Galen Slabaugh, Albion; Elsie (Ferlyn) Frey, Goshen; Julia (Steve) Borkholder, Milford; Retha (Michael) Miller, Bremen; Colleen Slabaugh; Karl (special friend Laura Bontrager), both at home; grandchildren: Ella Kate and Emma Jane Frey; Savannah and Caleb Borkholder; Tenisha Schmucker; mother: Rosa Slabaugh; brothers: Delbert (Ruby) Slabaugh, Shipshewana; Amos (Amanda) Slabaugh; Daniel (Ruth) Slabaugh, both of New Paris; Dennis (Anna Fern) Slabaugh, Bourbon; Nelson (Sharon) Slabaugh; Ernest (Marlene ) Slabaugh, both of Milford; Jerry (Irene) Slabaugh, Cadwell, Ill.; sisters: Dorothy Slabaugh, Nappanee; Sylvia Slabaugh, Bremen; Sarah (Marlin) Helmuth, both of Bremen; Rosemary (Leon) Miller, Shipshewana; Anna Marie (Perry) Miller, Arthur, Ill.; and Ruth Ann (Danny Jr.) Miller, Arcola.
He was preceded in death by his father: Elmer A. Slabaugh; paternal grandparents: Abner and Barbara (Yoder) Slabaugh; maternal grandparents: Peter and Sylvia (Bontrager) Borkholder; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Marvin and Mary Etta (Eash) Schmucker.
Mr. Slabaugh had worked at Newmar Industries and was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Family and friends may call after 2 pm. Thursday, June 25, and all day Friday, June 26, at the family residence. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 27, also at the family residence.
Bishop Amos Borkholder and the Home Ministry of the Old Order Amish Church will officiate and burial will be in West Union Center Cemetery.
