Southern Michigan Shaken By 3.3 Magnitude Earthquake
The U.S. Geological Survey has confirmed that a 3.3 magnitude earthquake shook southern Michigan this morning at 11:43 a.m.
The epicenter has been determined to be about seven miles northeast of Union City and 14 miles south/southeast of Battle Creek. Assessments are still ongoing, but so far no injuries or damages have been reported.
“Even though they don’t happen often in Michigan, earthquakes are a threat our emergency management officials are prepared and trained to handle,” stated Governor Rick Snyder. “Today’s event should serve as another reminder for Michiganders of the importance of personal preparedness for all kinds of emergencies and disasters.”
A 4.2 magnitude earthquake hit about 12 miles southeast of Kalamazoo on May 2. That quake was determined to have been a result of a geographical fault line in southwest Kalamazoo county.
