TinCaps Make Meal Of Dragons
FORT WAYNE – The TinCaps cruised past the Dayton Dragons on Sunday behind Michael Gettys’ three hits, winning 5-2. Gettys was one of five Fort Wayne (7-4, 39-40) hitters who had multi-hit games.
The Padres prospect led off the bottom of the first with a single off Dragons starter Mark Armstrong (L, 3-3). He scooted to third base on an error and scored when Nick Torres flew out to center field. Next, Trae Santos singled and again moved into scoring position after a Dayton (5-6, 44-37) error. This time it was Franmil Reyes who drove in the runner to put the home team up, 2-0.
The Dragons tied it up with two runs in the second inning, but the TinCaps took the lead for good in the third. Gettys singled once again and scored after Santos ripped a base hit into right field.
Gettys wasn’t finished. He scored another run to push Fort Wayne’s lead to two in the seventh and then drove in Mitch Morales in the eighth to place his team in front, 5-2.
Dinelson Lamet (W, 3-4) yielded just two runs over five innings. At one point, he and reliever Kyle McGrath combined to retire 16 consecutive Dayton hitters. The Dragons had more errors (5) than hits (4).
Yimmi Brasoban converted his second save this year in as many chances. The right-hander hasn’t allowed a run in 11 straight appearances out of the bullpen dating back to May 20th.
Fort Wayne won three of four games from Dayton during the home-and-home holiday weekend series. The team has gone 11-4 over its last 15 games. Next up is South Bend on the road at 7:05 p.m. on Monday.
The probable starters are Michael Kelly (4-1, 3.50) for the TinCaps and Trevor Clifton (3-6, 4.33) for the Cubs. Listen to the game on ESPN Radio 1380, TinCaps.com, and the TuneIn Radio app starting at 2:45 p.m.
