Brown Named Triton Football Head Coach
BOURBON – In an announcement made Monday afternoon, the Triton High School Athletic Department tabbed Ron Brown as its new varsity football head coach. Brown will take over immediately, replacing John Johns, who led the Trojans to a 4-17 record over the past two seasons.
Johns is departing the Trojans to take a teaching position at Benton Central High School, closer to his family.
“Coach Johns did a great job for us over the past two years,” said Triton athletic director Mason McIntyre. “We would like to thank him for his years of service and wish John and his family nothing but the best going forward.”
Brown will take over for the Trojans after five years as an assistant under former head coaches Johns and Rodney Younis. Prior to coming to Triton, Brown was an assistant coach for three years at Centerville High School. During his three years under coach Matt Holeva, Centerville went 24-6. Brown also serves as a co-coach for the Triton wresting program with Matt Arvesen.
“We are excited about coach Brown and what he will bring to our football program as the head coach,” McIntyre said. “Coach Brown has shown he has the leadership skills to run a successful program. He and coach Arvesen have done an outstanding job with our wrestling program and I anticipate the same results with our football program.”
Several other Triton coaches will fill out Coach Brown’s staff, including Arvesen and Younis. Jason Groves, Jeremy May, Jason Thompson and Shaun Belin round out the staff.
The Trojans will begin play against the Caston Comets in the newly formed Hoosier North Athletic Conference on August 21.
