Indiana Set To Pay $55 Million For Bicentennial
INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana is set to pay at least $55 million to celebrate Indiana’s bicentennial next year.
The Indianapolis Star reports that state lawmakers have passed legislation to pay for the festivities by leasing out over 300 underused cellphone towers, but the $55 million bill doesn’t include more than 430 locally-funded events. Taxpayers are also expected to pay for the $1.6 million torch relay that will move through all 92 counties.
Indiana has many plans to celebrate its birthday, including a state archives facility, costing $25 million dollars, and Potato Creek Park will get a $24 million dollar inn. Other projects coming to the Indiana Statehouse include $2.5 million for the state library’s education center and a new $2 million Bicentennial Plaza.
