Event Provides Free Health Screenings To Local Men
SOUTH BEND — Local men can take advantage of free health screenings at an annual event sponsored by RiverBend Cancer Services. The 11th annual Touch Base at Four Winds Field is set for 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12. Guests can enter the stadium at Lot B.
Touch Base at Four Winds Field gives men the opportunity to receive, for free, three potentially life-saving cancer screenings and 14 other important, often costly, medical tests to detect and prevent life-altering conditions.
Organizers of Touch Base hope to provide screenings to over 300 men in the community at this year’s event. The goal is to improve early detection and awareness to reduce the incidence and mortality from cancer and other related diseases.
“We know that access to healthcare continues to be difficult and we’re dedicated to making these important screenings available to men who may not otherwise have access to them,” said Kate Voelker, Executive Director of RiverBend Cancer Services.
All men who attend will have access to free health screenings for prostate cancer, diabetes, skin cancer, oral cancer, hearing, vision, cholesterol, HIV, blood pressure and more. It is recommended that men who wish to receive prostate and skin cancer screenings arrive by 6 p.m., as these screenings take longer to complete. Spanish translators will be available.
