Ernest Lamar ‘Ernie’ Knight
Ernest Lamar “Ernie” Knight, 75, of Syracuse, was called home by our heavenly Father at 2:15 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2015, at Courtyard Healthcare in Goshen, following a six month illness. He was born on June 12, 1940, in Goshen, to James Edward Trainor and Lucille Daisy Knight.
He attended Goshen public schools and was a lifetime Goshen and Syracuse area resident. He was married in 1988 to Donna Marie (Haggerty) Smith who preceded him in 2005. He retired in 2002 from Syracuse Rubber Company after 32 years of service.
He was of the Catholic faith and called BINGO at local BINGO halls.
He is survived by daughter: Wendy Gay Boggs, Sebring, Fla.; sons: Patrick Christopher (Linda) Knight, El Paso, Texas; Eric Lamar (Sara) Knight, Goshen; stepdaughters: Kay Caudill, Syracuse; Peggy (Donald) Caudill, Elkhart; Becky Barraza, Texas; Beverly (James) Phillips, Edwardsburg, Mich.; Della Rieth, Syracuse; Michelle (Jim) Hamilton, Elkhart; two stepsons: Bennie Morse, Syracuse; Chris Smith; Warsaw; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren; and special friend: Phyllis Fackler, Syracuse.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son: Michael Lee Knight; two sisters: Betty Ringler; Linda Hoover; and brother: Lawrence Knight.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, in the funeral home with Fr. Tony Steinbacker, of the St. John’s Catholic Church, Goshen, officiating. Burial will follow in Syracuse Cemetery.
