WASHINGTON D.C. — Aug. 14 marks the 80th anniversary of the Social Security Act. Acting Commissioner Carolyn W. Colvin announced the launch of the agency’s event-filled celebration, with many activities leading up to this date. To learn more about the events going on today, visit their event website.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the SSA in 1935, providing economic security for workers when they retired. Today, Social Security provides benefits to more than 56 million retirees, disabled workers and their families.

National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys members are well-equipped to help older Americans, people with disabilities, and their families make better financial choices that will allow them to meet their individual goals as well as navigate the complexities of Social Security as they approach retirement.
