Lancaster Scores Twice As Lady Warriors Win
LAGRANGE – It was a high-scoring affair to start the season for the Lakeland and Wawasee girls soccer teams. The visiting Lady Warriors broke Laker hearts late with a go-ahead goal to clinch a 3-2 win.
Wawasee’s Sarah Lancaster played the role of spoiler all night against Lakeland. The senior scored twice in the second half, including the game winning goal off of a rebound with 1:47 remaining to give Wawasee the 3-2 lead. Lancaster’s first goal came with 16 minutes remaining in the game.
It was junior Leigh-Ann Shrack that got Wawasee on the board early, scoring just five minutes into the contest to tie things up 1-1.
“This was a good team effort tonight,” stated Wawasee head coach Doug Heinisch. “We controlled most of the game and had several good scoring opportunities. Midfield did a good job of supporting offensive attacks while transitioning well and getting back on defense.
“Our defense was solid the entire game and limited Lakeland’s chances. We also had great play from our bench, we really have more depth this season than we’ve had in the past.”
Wawasee (1-0) will host West Noble Wednesday evening.
