Kreger Unopposed For Pierceton Clerk-Treasurer
PIERCETON — The financial responsibility of Pierceton is being passed on in January to the new Clerk-Treasurer Jerry Kreger. He will be running unopposed this November, and will take up the new mantle once the new year begins.
This will not be Kreger’s first time in office, as he has already spent 16 years on the town council, with 13 of those years being spent as president. Kreger graduated from Manchester University with a B.S. in Business Administration, and hopes to put that degree to work in this new position. His experience with the council, along with his degree, make him more than capable of handling the town’s financial needs.
Kreger was a member of the Pierceton Fire Department for 30 years, has lived in the same house in Pierceton for 29 years and has been married for 31 years to his wife, Cindy Kreger. Throughout his life, he has always been devoted to Pierceton, and that will only continue through the new position.
When asked about why he was running for the office, Kreger noted that his excitement for the job involved the people he would be working with. “When you have people who are working well together, you know you can get much more accomplished,” said Kreger of his new, and old workmates.
Another reason Kreger noted for his excitement was his family. About a year ago, when tragedy struck their family, Kreger and his wife inherited an antique shop in town called Roberta’s Antiques. The shop had belonged to his wife’s mother, but when she passed, they decided to change the name to Roberta’s Daughter. His hope is that in addition to helping Pierceton, he will also be able to help his wife run the shop.
When asked about the town, he talked about a motorcycle accident that had cost him his arm when he was younger. “The town was there for me in that time. It’s become more like an extended family to me.”
If he is elected clerk-treasurer he might have a steep learning curve, but he is willing to take that learning curve head-on in order to help the town. Janet Castle, Pierceton’s current Clerk-treasurer has agreed to stay on part-time in order for Kreger to become acquainted with the new position.
Kreger will be taking over for Castle, who is stepping down after 32 years serving as Clerk-treasurer.
