Harriet Eloise Baxter
Harriet Eloise Baxter, 84, a resident of Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake, passed away Sept. 2, 2015.
She was born April 16, 1931, in Greenville, S.C., a daughter of the late Reverend Harold Eugene and Lucille Collins Cunningham Sr., and her stepmother, the late Grace Johnson Cunningham. On Dec. 24, 1952, she married Wendell Duane Baxter, who preceded her in death.
She accepted Christ as Savior at age 8. Her love for the Lord was expressed through faithful devotion to her husband, family and church ministries, including the many duties of a pastor’s wife, Christian education worker, Vacation Bible School teacher/director, music ministry and hostess. After retiring in 1996 from Christian radio work, the couple enjoyed RV-ing in the South and volunteering with Wycliffe Bible Translators. They were members of Maple Valley Community Church, Suring, Wis. She moved to Grace Village in 2013 to be nearer to her family.
She is survived by two daughters: Sandra (David) Malley, Minneapolis, Minn.; and Debra (James) Rothhaar, Ligonier; a son: Anthony (Patricia) Baxter, Cincinnati, Ohio; three sisters: Pat; Mary Lou; Margaret Linda; and one brother: Harold Jr. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren: Bryan (Denae) Malley; Benjamin (Monica) Malley; Joel (Sarah) Rotthaar; Jenna Rothhaar; Anna Rothhaar; Tyler Rothhaar; Carie( James) Semenko; Heather (Brett) Hay; Shelby Baxter; Andrew Baxter; Anthony Baxter; seven great-grandchildren: Addison and Bennett Hay; Lyle and Harvey Malley; LIam Malley; Austin and Audrey Semenko. She also was preceded in death by a sister: Mildred.
A gathering of friends and family will be at Grace Village Retirement Community in Winona Lake at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, and officiated by Chaplain Bryan Benjamin. Her ashes will be interred at a later date in Hickory Cemetery, Suring, Wis., where her late husband is buried.
Memorials donations may be directed to Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake, and would be appreciated by the family. Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
