Beaman Home Hosts Day Of Giving
WARSAW — Beaman Home leaders will hold a Day of Giving at their new Outreach Center on Parker Street on Sunday, Sept. 13. Donors, supporters, volunteers, emergency workers and interested community members are invited to tour the new facility from 2-4 p.m.
Board and staff members will explain the center’s new programs and provide an update on the construction of the two-story emergency shelter addition now underway on the west end of the new outreach center.
In January, the Beaman Home family suffered a tremendous loss when a key founder passed away. The Day of Giving will honor Beaman Home’s “founding mother,” Mary Ann Cox, on what would have been her 85th birthday. Beaman Home would not exist without Cox and her sister Altrusans who founded the shelter in 1985. For over 30 years, Cox worked tirelessly to serve the domestic violence victims in our community. In 2009, she was named volunteer of the year by the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence for her faithful service and the thousands of hours she dedicated to the families we serve.
The day of giving will provide an opportunity for the community to see the vision Beaman Home leaders are working to complete. Funds have been raised to construct the basement, exterior walls and extended reception area of the new shelter. Executive director, Tracie Hodson explained, “The Day of Giving is an opportunity for the community to understand how our experienced staff assists domestic violence victims so they may live abuse-free lives. The community has been very generous to us over the years, and we are extremely grateful for that! Only with the continued generosity of our community will we be able to complete our new emergency shelter in early 2016.”
The Beaman Home has long outgrown its existing cramped emergency shelter explained board President, Denny Cripe. He added, “We need the community’s help to finalize our campaign by the end of October…annual Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The campaign can be wrapped up with 100 individuals, businesses and/or organization donating $3,000 (outright donations or $1,000/year over 3 years).”
All donations are greatly appreciated. Hodson added that gifts of appreciated stock can also be accepted. Contributions are tax deductible and may also qualify for NAP credits which can be deducted from Indiana state tax liability.
Pledges and outright donations may be sent to The Beaman Home, P.O. Box 12, Warsaw, IN 46581-0012. Community members wishing to have a personal tour of Beaman Home’s new Outreach Center to learn more about the organization’s future plans may contact Hodson at (574) 703-0722 or [email protected].
