WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Jackie Walorski issued the following statement after supporting H.R. 3134, the Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015:

“Ten videos have now shown Planned Parenthood employees shamelessly discussing the act of harvesting aborted babies’ tissue and organs. It’s disgusting that any organization, especially one that receives $500 million dollars in taxpayer funding, would deceive women during a difficult time in their life to make a profit.

Since I’ve served in public office, I’ve supported legislation to restrict funds to abortion providers, like Planned Parenthood. In light of these videos, it’s clear we need to do much more to prohibit these acts from ever occurring again. I’ll continue to fight any abuse of taxpayer dollars to subsidize the destruction of life, which God created.”

The legislation was drafted in response to undercover videos showing Planned Parenthood employees discussing the harvesting of aborted babies’ tissue and organs. The bill would place an immediate moratorium on all federal funding of Planned Parenthood for the span of one year.

All funds that are no longer available to Planned Parenthood will be redirected to local community health centers that provide women’s health care services while Congress conducts a full investigation into the organization’s activities.

The legislation passed by a vote of 241-187 and now heads to the Senate for further consideration.
