Valley Edges Whitko On Courts
AKRON – The Tippecanoe Valley boys tennis team used a pair of wins in singles play to highlight a close win over Whitko Tuesday night.
The host Vikings won in straight sets on both the No. 1 and No. 2 singles courts to top the Wildcats by a 3-2 final in Three Rivers Conference play.
Trevor Neeley led the way for Valley as he topped Bailey Platt 6-0, 7-5 at No. 1 singles action.
Keith Wright collected another point for the Vikings as he defeated Corey Hersha 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
The Vikings got the third and clinching point from its No. 2 doubles team of Eric Wright and Kane Steller. The pair topped Bill Stump and Austin Hollowell 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2.
Whitko got wins from Alex Bechtold at No. 3 singles and from the team of Nicolas Rose and Tim Gensch at No. 1 doubles. Bechtold beat Nick Caudill 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 and Rose and Gensch topped Dakota Parker and Seth Hoffman 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2.
Whitko won the junior varsity competition by a 2-1 count.
Whitko hosts Wabash today and Tippecanoe Valley plays at Manchester Thursday.
